Excerpt from a demo session with a recently purchased used Jay Turser ES-175-ish guitar. Played through that Vox and into an Ableton Live channel.

https://youtu.be/1saXq1yltBo Part IXII of an exploratory series. This one used some Rozeta MIDI AUs, the SynthOne instrument and one of my favorites – the Shaper effect.
There’s a lot of faux tape looper stuff here and I play a bit with key and scale changes to keep it moving. Experimental music has no formula besides “do something you are not so familiar with.” That’s what this is.

I set up a little Live set using the technique of feeding a few random midi loops into one drum rack. I picked something sort of electronic – a Latin Hybrid thing – and threw in a very glitchy twitchy effect rack and randomized a bunch of stuff with LFOs. It was pretty crazy going for a while and then while recording, I swapped out that kit for a very normal jazz kit and let that go for a while. After that, I turned off the effect and let the natural drums do their thing.

April 05 2020 iPhone SynthMaster One
https://youtu.be/r56JKEIjc4Q Part X of a series where I merge my experiments with screen capture with my year-plus project of very free and real experiments with sounds. I had to learn how to rotate this (I used a program called Handbrake) before I could upload this. Even still, some of the apps prefer vertical phone view. You get what you pay for. Enjoy. This was fun.

https://youtu.be/O9QhgC8_JKk Part IX of an exploratory series as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. This one used the excellent Beatwave app. The app is limited in how you can shape sounds (which are optional extra buys) but very neat if you need to generate some random notes or beats.
I start out simply by letting Beatwave do its thing with a synth patch and then add in Shaper and later Altispace. I spent some time checking out the interactions between the two external effects and the ones built into Beatwave. Closer to the end, I change over to a drum sample kit and really push the Shaper while messing with speeds both in the randomization as well as the overall tempo of the piece.

April 5 2020 VCV Rack generative session
https://youtu.be/vSUMC6N8zW0 Part VIII of an exploratory series as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. This one uses VCV Rack – the free Eurorack-like modular soft synth – and specifically uses the Macro Oscillator, Shaper, Caudal, Seq3 & Seriously Slow LFO modulules.
As with many of my VCV sessions, this gets way out there and also features lots of blind alleys and dead ends.

https://youtu.be/j1QTZIZFqDw Part VII of an exploratory series as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. This one is mainly an electronic percussion exploration using the Fractal Bits app to generate the sound. The notes are generated using two Rozeta AUs – Bassline and Arpeggiator. I use GliderVerb as an additional reverb on top of what is already included in Fractal Bits.
I did something wrong near the end and lost the WAV audio I was recording in AudioShare so I am pretty darn happy I made this screen capture. After the fact, I used Audacity to convert the MP4 to a WAV.

https://youtu.be/Y83O25-BnGc Part VI (and personally Day 363) of an exploratory series as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. This one used some fairly steady note patterns with Fugue and the very unique Wavemapper to randomize elements of timbre, etc.
Fugue allows for up to 4 “heads” to travel in either direction, with different transpositions and different rates of travel and depending upon your speeds, you can very easily use this to generate some note patterns (to MIDI) for later use. While the note patterns are not random at all, the relationship between them can get quite complex.
I find it tough to alter the speed finely and I do wish the different heads could also be in different time sigs but it is still a very nice app to use.
I enjoyed the later part of this piece – as is typical, I record as much as possible, even while I tweak the knobs to my liking. I consider this part of being “experimental” – sometimes I have no idea what is going to happen!

https://youtu.be/88fJW5GRB38 Part V of an exploratory series as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. I have chosen to integrate this with what is now a 361 day habit-forming audio exercise to create at least two five minute recordings each day – many have been generative but not all. This was done with Audiobus connecting some Rozeta midi AUs, DXi synth app (just downloaded this today for $1.99) and AudioShare to capture the recording. I used a number of effect apps – Glitch1 (which I still don’t totally get – RTFM!) and a neat guitar sim called Bias FX.
There are some good spots here where I just let it do its thing while I walked away and grabbed some wine refills.
Watch out for the end – Audiobus crashed and I could not recover! LOUD! I’m pretty sure it was Glitch1 or BiasFX based on the fact that I haven’t had one of these in a while and I haven’t used either in a while.

April 01 2020 FL Studio Generative Session
https://youtu.be/IfTGien-Cpc April 01 2020 FL Studio Generative Session
Part IV of an exploratory series (I am on vacation up until today) as I attempt to learn how to use screen recording software. This was done with VoiceMeeter and OBS. Shortly after this video, I finally figured out how to add a mic into the final video when making sure that my video meeting software will work tomorrow for my job. I might make it more interesting (or not) by talking about what I am doing in upcoming episodes. I also worked out some improved video capture settings which might make new episodes that much better.
Even though it was the first DAW I ever liked, I haven’t kept up with all the changes in FLS. I certainly have not done most of the more advanced stuff I can do well in Ableton Live. However, I am finding that watching my own videos can be helpful in catching things I would have otherwise not remembered how to do after stumbling upon it.
That said, this one is a bit slow – and I entirely forgot about limiting so the second half frequently goes into full blast red. I’m using all FLStudio native plugins – Granulizer, Peak Controller, Formula Controller, Soft Clipper, Delay 2, Love Philter – along with some samples I’ve collected since back when Fruity Loops 3.5 was my main choice.
