by: Yosa Buson

One of the four great haiku masters, Yosa Buson studied both Japanese and Chinese poetry. He was also an accomplished painter, and most of his poems were accompanied by paintings, resulting in a more diverse and individual set of works than the one by his main historical influence, Basho.

by Saitō Sanki

Saitō Sanki (1900 – 1962) was a dentist who discovered his passion for haiku poetry in his mid-thirties when his colleagues at the hospital in Soto Kanda convinced him to write a haiku for a collection. Later, he became one of the most important exponents of wartime haiku: he was imprisoned in 1940 during the government’s World War II persecution of controversial artists, and was officially forbidden to write until the end of the war.

Chowder Spray (disquiet0691)

https://ift.tt/JXP6WN7

Edited, mixed & mastered on 28 Mar 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa, USA.

This piece uses a 1928 recording by the Capet String Quartet of Ravel’s string quartet (Col. D 15057-60).

The original source is the Internet Archive:

https://ift.tt/14Sko9a

Process notes –

This is more like “already fallen apart” vs “listen to it fall apart.” I cut the recording into 6 pieces and did something different with each. Some granulation, some feedback loops, some stretching, some chops, lots of bouncing down.

The Buyer With The Asymmetrical Nose (disquiet0690)

https://ift.tt/xQKl6Xb

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 22 Mar 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa, USA.

Organ & effects

Process notes –

For this piece, I first took some photos of the red backyard deck that I have access to. I record much of my music out there in the summer. I planned to go outside today and record this but instead started the day by playing with some lazy organ sounds indoors. I used one of my photographs as a graphic score, reading top to bottom. Generally, when we get to knots or imperfections in the wood, I introduced more probability of notes and randomness. I introduced this again a bit near the end, to keep the piece moving and the composition a little more balanced.
