Smoke The Banana Peel And Drink The Green Gravy (disquiet0685)

https://ift.tt/mfzEu34

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 13 Feb 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa, USA & Union Square, NYC, USA.

Synths, reverb, echo.

Several influences shaped this recording:
1 – My attempts to modify Karplus-Strong keep crashing Max
2 – I listened to Zappa’s “Lumpy Gravy” today, which mentions pickup sticks
3 – I envisioned the game as a collage
4 – I imagined tapping into the thoughts of various players
5 – I wanted to incorporate a Polivoks synth emulator
6 – I reflected on how each stick is nearly identical

You Have A Candy Inside (naviarhaiku579)

https://ift.tt/uwEbOfr

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 07 Feb 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa.

This original version of “You Have A Candy Inside” was submitted as part of Naviar Haiku 579, Mount Asama.

Mount Asama
amidst its fumes and ash
fresh young leaves!

by: Yosa Buson

The event Bosun refers to is the eruption of Mount Asama in 1783, which instantly killed over 1,000 people. The toxic ash traveled 100 miles to Edo, making farmland useless and causing many more people to starve.

One of the four great haiku masters, Yosa Buson studied both Japanese and Chinese poetry. He was also an accomplished painter, and most of his poems were accompanied by paintings, resulting in a more diverse and individual set of works than the one by his main historical influence, Basho.

I read the haiku and imagined the smell of a rose and all the interesting places our memories can go to. All sounds are native devices in Ableton Live, using my own presets/racks, all being played by multiple instances of a sequencer I put together in Max For Live with the help of Claude.ai.

This original version of “No Drip” was submitted as part of Naviar Haiku 577, Curve Of Time.

I read the haiku a few times and imagined a cloud of visibly cool air enveloping a warm lake, a tree and a heron.

Mars In The Nondeterministic House (disquiet0681)

https://ift.tt/qs1MA2S

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 16 Jan 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa.

Using an AI-generated drum generator I had put together this week, I generated some midi, used some for bass and some for drums. I won’t get into too many details but the sustained sound is a bassoon or sample or something. It reminded me a little of Cale’s viola on the first VU.

For this I thought of some innocent with headphones on in some 80s shock suspense horror film out for a walk after an argument with the parents unaware that they were being followed by some evil thing. Kind of lulled away from intense emotion and zoning out to something not too engaging but not without movement. Maybe the result of the Walkman’s radio dial getting stuck after the device was thrown.

This might sound contrived but as I was coming up with this I was thinking of David Lynch’s Wild At Heart and the loop of Wicked Game in the car crash scene. This was about 45 min before I knew he had died. I am sad beyond belief.

Friction And Fluoride (naviarhaiku575)

Recorded, mixed & mastered on 28/29 Apr 2023 & 11 Jan 2025 by Jim Lemanowicz at Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories of Massapequa.

The original material is a bit of mystery to me – Cecelia5, FL Studio, PaulXStretch, Reason, Thor, Fracture. To this I added Collision and Massive X & Arturia Fragments. I created this track after organizing the raw material for a future album. This was the second track I completed. I completed the first track yesterday for this week’s Disquiet Junto.

This original version of “Friction And Fluoride” was submitted as part of Naviar Haiku 575, Even Though Afar.

Even though afar
a feeling of coolness comes
from those mountain pines

by: Kagami Shikō

Kagami Shikō was a Japanese poet, considered one of the ten outstanding disciples (Shōmon jittetsu 蕉門十哲) of Matsuo Bashō. He was in turn the master of the famous poetess Fukuda Chiyo-ni.

Originally from the present-day Gifu Prefecture, Kagami Shikō became a monk at Daichi-ji Temple, and in 1690 he became a pupil of Bashō, later accompanying him on some of his journeys and recording his last will in 1694.

After Basho’s death, he kept travelling around Japan, writing several essays on haiku and collections of writings until his death in 1731.
